Tsunami Women in Kallar

People all over the country celebrated India’s 60th year of independence with great gusto. With Kalaar Women’s Association (which is one of UEM’s ministerial endeavors), the day had a special significance. They had thought that their life and dreams had ended when the Tsunami stripped them of all that was dear to them.

However, through the UEM endeavor, slowly and surely, the women and their children were drawn out of the pit of despair and they began to receive God’s healing and restoration. They are now able to see God’s fresh new purpose for their lives.
150 women participated in the independence day celebration program along with the UEM Staff.

Mrs. Sumathi, President of Kallar Women Association gave the presidential address and encouraged the members to take courage because Christ has overcome the world, and He has promised never to leave or forsake them.

Mrs.Thaiyalnayagi, who represented the UEM Kalaimagal Self Help Group, hoisted the national flag. Women in Kallar village were filled with joy and happy to see women hoist the national flag for the first time ever in Kallar, in the presence of their elders. The elders looked on approvingly, and the men applauded. It became a historical and land marking day in Kallar.

The Panchayat head openly acknowledged that with the training the women were acquiring from UEM, the entire village was being benefited. The women worked together and cleaned the street which was in bad shape due to the heavy monsoon rains. UEM’s Brother Rajendran also attended the Independence Day program at Paapppakoil Government School.
