Joyce Lynn Peter Kirubagaran is the wife of John Peter Kirubagaran, Founder of UEMI. A director of United Evangelical Mission India herself, Joyce, as a leading pastor’s daughter, was strategically placed to see the incredible suffering women went through because of poverty, injustice, oppression and cruelty. After returning from the US with her husband, following the birth of their second son Joab, Joyce experienced a persistent burden for women – especially those whose morale was destroyed and dignity assaulted. Many were homeless and abandoned and had no self worth at all. After encountering 15 such women with hopelessness, Joyce took her step in faith and TALITHA CUMI was born.
This program today provides women with the skills that are necessary to support themselves and their children.
A shopping spree resulted in the purchase of 200 lbs of tomatoes for Joyce Lynn who decided to pickle 20 such bottles which she sold in church since she had decided to use the proceeds for the poor. The first sales gained a 300% PROFIT. This became a motivating factor to create a range of pickles and put them on the shelves of every departmental store for a nominal price. God’s Hand on the project was evident and it gave the team great confidence.
With a desire to raise every unprivileged woman God specifically sent her way, John and Joyce decided to call the new program TALITHA CUMI which is from the Bible and means “Young woman, arise!”
