Brother Mamex with Doraswamy

Nagercoil is a city in the southern state of India, Tamil Nadu. It is also the southernmost city in South India, situated close to the tip of the India Peninsula.

Nageroil derives its name from a an old Jain temple called Naga Raja ( temple of the serpent king) which still exists in the central part of the town. Today, the temple is being used by Hindus, which has also become an important touristic destination.
Tamil, Malayalam and English are widely spoken by the people. These three languages are used as a medium of teaching in all major schools. The culture is a mixture of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Christianity, Hinduism and Islam are the main religions practised, with Christians accounting to nearly half of the populace.
However in Kaniyauzam, a village close to Nagercoil, the people are pre-dominantly non-christian and preaching the gospel in this village is banned. But the resistance of the people has been met with perseverence of committed Community Transformation Centre (CTC) participants. UEM initiated a CTC in the village which was inaugurated on 4th November 2005. In the past one and half years there has been many such encounters where the perseverance of the participants have proved vital in taking the Gospel to future believers. A recent account involves the persistence of Br. J. Mamex, one of the CTC students.

Brother Mamex met a man called Doraswammy, a man who had broken his leg in an accident that resulted in him being bed-ridden from many months. Doraswammy also happened to be the breadwinner of the family. Being without work for such a long time, caused unforseen stress on the family financially, to such an extent that basic necessities such as food became difficult to provide.

Brother Mamex intervened in at the right time and shared the Word of God, assuring them hope in God. Though they resisted at first, but with the persistence of Mamex the family members relented and opened their hearts to Jesus Christ. Brother Mamex prayed for Doraswamy and he soon began to improve in health. This made the family members put their faith in the Lord and they accepted Jesus as their personal savior.
