United Evangelical Mission has charted out a plan of rehabilitation for the women of the Kallar Village between the age group of 20 and 40. As the Oxfam survey has proclaimed that the women are the one who are the most affected, UEM plans to bring transformation in their lives by bringing them out of their trauma and above all, by empowering them.
The plan includes the starting of 10 self-help groups in one year’s time, where about 100 women will be involved. The self-help group will concentrate on small savings and motivation will be provided to them through skits, movies and songs.
From the 100 women in the self-help groups, 30 will be selected for training in tailoring where they would be trained in this particular vocational skill, which will prove to be an income-generating program for them. These women will undergo the training for the first six months and then for the next six months they will undergo apprenticeship training. After the completion of one year they will move to the production unit, which will receive orders from various sources whereby these women will start generating income.
The other women in the self help groups also will be imparted with other vocational skills which would be applicable in that area and which would bring in income to sustain the women.
The women will also have regular feedback sessions, and many awareness programs will be conducted for them such as, AIDS / HIV, health, infections, various venues in the field of vocational skills and savings.
The goal of UEMI is to see the community totally transformed, self sufficient and able to face any kinds of challenges such as natural calamities, social upheavals and others.
