- Catastrophe
                                                 Have you ever thought about…
… what goes on in the heart of children when they lose their loved ones?

Catastrophe

Who can imagine the desperate fear and anxiety in the hearts of orphaned children... ...who saw the sea swallow their parents – their lifeline!

The Tsunami waves which were triggered as a result of an earthquake with its epicenter near the Sumatra Islands of Indonesia that measured about 8.9 on the Richter Scale played havoc in the whole of South East Asia .

United Evangelical Mission being an organisation which serves the people of this nation in times of distress, intervened and helped the people by supplying their needs. UEMI has 7 villages with a total population of 1,220 families and started providing them relief items like clothing, groceries for a month and house hold items like, table fans, steel cupboards, cots and water filters.

Thousands lost their lives and millions were orphaned and distressed. In such a critical time UEMI came up with the plan to adopt a village for the purpose of rehabilitation.

The Survey conducted by Oxfam International Studies, three months after the disastrous Tsunami, has thrown light on many issues concerning the relief and rehab work. The survey states that the victims of the Tsunami were mostly women and children. On why more women and children died, the survey notes it was sheer survival of the fittest. Women and children drowned when they could not stand on their feet and flee to safety or climb trees.

The study also has given a warning,

“This disproportionate impact will lead to problems for years to come unless every one working on the aid effort addresses the issue now”

This is precisely the reason why UEMI immediately launched into rehabilitation work for children.
