Of course we have come a long way since UEM began its official project with children in 1998 under ‘New Life Children’s Home’, a shelter, a school and above all a home for destitute children, orphans, and children of poor construction workers who could not afford to keep them. The Bangalore New Life Children Home began with just 35 children and has grown ever since to 160 odd strength. We are grateful to God for helping us to launch United Public School (UPS), a formal school open to children of all economic backgrounds, so as to enable holistic development.

We make no bones about the fact that our essential ministry is with children, indeed the poorest of the lot. Defenseless and unheard, despite efforts of UEM and other similar organizations, a large percentage of children still remain victims of starvation, exploitation, sexual abuse, and many such atrocities. But many of them have got a new life through the efforts of UEM’s rehabilitation programs. UPS has been progressing well since its inception in 2001. Each year more and more students enroll in the school. We pray for abundant blessings on our donors and sponsors who have made possible this new lease of life for so many underprivileged children in India.

The children have overflowing hearts and want to use the beautiful season of Christmas to express their gratitude to their benefactors. The delight is because it is due to the generosity of anointed hearts that childhood has been transformed into a “special island” for them on which they can feed themselves in the field of education. A few know that their English is far from good, but they know they are on the right path and will soon be able to cope with their peers.
